Presidents Corner: Thanks to all who helped with the Colby Classic, either fishing or helping at the beach house, collecting door prizes, setting up, or taking down. We can’t accomplish this event without your support and help. On another note, we are setting up a special fund to purchase land, we will be using 10% of our net profit at the end of the year to put into this account, however if anyone wants to donate to this special fund we will welcome the donation. We know we can not raise the funds to buy land alone and we will be looking at other options so we can meet our goal of having more land sooner than later. This is a first step in the process of acquiring land, but we also need to look to the future of the cub and not put it on financially unstable ground just to buy land. Buying land is a huge endeavor and not one this current board takes lightly, however it has come to the point where we seriously need to start saving money to buy land. As always, member’s inputs are always welcomed. Feel free to contact any one of the board members if you have any questions or suggestions.
Sporter Rifle: The season is over, however offhand rifle shooters are welcome to come down to practice and keep your skills sharp.
Pistol Night: Tues nights, the league is starting. Contact Al Nassan at 891-1382 or show up on Tues night to get more information. You need a pistol license to shoot in this league.
Archery Shooting: Wednesday nights are set aside for archery, but remember it will be after the Boy Scouts leave, about 7:30 ish. We have some members that shoot archery on Wednesday nights after the Boy Scouts leave. If you want to work on your skills or just try a new sport stop by and join in.
NRA Small Bore 4 Position Shooting League: We have a few new members that are shooting the Small bore NRA 4 Position shooting. If you are interested stop by and see how it works and what you need to join. Peter Hunkins is in charge of this league and can be contacted at 523-2252
Colby Classic Ice Fishing Derby: Congratulations to all the winners. Over 200 participants despite the ice conditions. Two of the tagged fish were caught. Billy Vaughn and Carl Rivers were the lucky fishers. Brandon Bombard won the Grand Prize Spring Brown Trout Fish Trip with Fish Doctors Charters. Congratulations Brenden and those he will pick to accompany him on this wonder fishing trip. Remember and spread the word – Any tagged fish caught in Colby are still worth money. $25.00 will be awarded. Bring the tag to Blue Line. They will notify us for verification. This event is a fundraiser for the club; a big thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make this successful. The winners will be listed at the end of this newsletter.
Camperships: Are available and we will sponsor youth 11-13 years old to go to Camp Colby this year. The youth have to be a child or grandchild of a club member. For more information about the camp, go to NYSDEC summer camps on the web, or call over to DEC in Ray Brook. If anyone has a child that wants to go and would like a campership from this club, please contact me at 518-201-4009.
Please mark your calendars: We will be holding a clean up – spruce up day on June 11th. It is important task this year. We are asking you to take some time so there will be a great impression for the open house.
Open House: This event will be held June 18th. We would like to show off the club, explaining what we offer and invite people to join. If anyone has any ideas of any sports related activities they would like to display or show the public at our open house, please contact a board member. More info will available as the time gets closer.
